Patricia Hoad grew up in Brighton, Barbados and was educated at Queens College in Bridgetown. She and her husband John returned from London to the Caribbean and worked in Guyana and in Kingston, Jamaica, before moving to Princeton, New Jersey. Pat lives now in California.
Patricia Hoad has lived for many decades away from her island home, but her voice remains essentially that of a Caribbean woman. Her poetry is a welcome addition to the growing body of Caribbean literature. Through strong, vivid metaphor, she dares to share deep human experience of leaving and loss but also of creativity and joy. Her work is sensitively crafted with such care that only the essential appears on the page.
