With a background in photography, the author through a collection of artful images provides a window into the typically closed operating room doors of a cardiac surgeon. The Art of Healing - A Glimpse of Cardiac Surgery describes all stages of Coronary artery bypass grafting, including anaesthesia, going on the cardiopulmonary bypass machine, vein and arterial grafting, coming off the cardiopulmonary bypass machine, chest closure, patient recovery, intensive care unit stay, and finally the patient's three month post-operative progress visit. Coronary artery bypass grafting is the most common procedure in cardiac surgery. With millions affected by cardiac disease and it being the most common cause of death in North America, this book offers a unique opportunity to follow a cardiac surgeon as he performs the surgery. It provides a clear picture of what happens behind the closed doors of a modern, state of the art cardiac operating room, with easily understandable descriptions and reasoning.
