Lain's history is steeped in music, recording, touring, writing, and also musical theatre. His first solo recording project concept was simple. He chose a playlist from his ever-growing collection of songs and gathered some great musician friends to hang out for a week to record them, after which, he spent the following week adding his vocals. He felt strongly about finding a cohesive flow, to the varying genres, for the final body of work to to stand the test of time. The album Brother Soul was borne out of that very idea. Songs from the heart about his faith, his truth, and his poetic commitment to justice, all wrapped up in influences of gospel, folk, and soul, that Lain often refers to as GosFoSoul. In 2008, Lain and his wife Anita left their home and families in London England, and moved to the US, first to New York and then Houston Texas.Lain is the last child of nine, British born to Jamaican parents, a husband, and now father of three children, Laylah, Judah, and Oliver. He's a singer, songwriter/producer, and now, author, with over 20 years of experience in the recording industry. He prides himself on being open-handed in collaboration, and open-minded in the genre of music creation. While he has had some successful moments, he continues to knock on the doors of opportunity, with his entrance into the world of writing children's books. The mongoose is native to Jamaica, the mother country of Lain's parents, which inspired the title and concept over a decade ago. It was only when Lain's collaboration with illustrator Ilma Salmon, hit the visual target that Lain was looking for, that his then two-year-old son Oliver, started to request daily Marlon storytime. Adding the songbook seemed natural for this accomplished musician, whose roots and culture are so deeply linked in gospel and reggae. Lain's main intention is to bring little first-time readers to books, in such a way, that as they grow, there's only an ever-increasing hunger for knowledge and learning through reading.
