After a life of peril and fear, Millie has reached the peace, beauty, and security of the afterlife. But one day, when she is performing her glad duty of welcoming a new spirit, that spirit recoils from her in horror - because her body had become a zombie, and had brutally killed him.

As more spirits make the same terrible discovery, they ask themselves, and each other: is this somehow my fault? When will it end? And finally: what can we do? Is there something we can do to stop this?

And are there people among the living who can help them to do it?

Karen A. Wyle was born a Connecticut Yankee, but moved every few years throughout her childhood and adolescence. After college in California, law school in Massachusetts, and a mercifully short stint in a large San Francisco law firm, she moved to Los Angeles, where she met her now-husband, who hates L.A. They eventually settled in Bloomington, Indiana, home of Indiana University. They have two wildly creative offspring.Wyle's voice is the product of almost five decades of reading both literary and genre fiction. It is no doubt also influenced, although she hopes not fatally tainted, by her years of law practice. Whether writing science fiction, fantasy, historical romance, or other historical fiction, she tends to focus on the often-intertwined themes of individual identity, liberty, family, communication, unintended consequences, and the persistence of unfinished business. She has also published one nonfiction book, a resource for authors, law students, or anyone else interested in understanding more about American law. She has collaborated with various illustrators to publish picture books as well.

Reviews for That The Dead May Rest

""That the Dead May Rest is a compelling and sophisticated exploration of memory, grief, and the shadows the past casts on the present. . . . Karen Wyle's prose is elegant and evocative. Her meticulous attention to historical nuance anchors the narrative in authenticity, while the unfolding mystery sustains a quiet but relentless tension. The author thoughtfully drew the characters, and their inner conflicts resonated against the novel's atmospheric backdrop. . . . Wyle avoids sensationalism, opting instead for a measured, haunting tone that lingers well after the final page."" -- Midwest Book Review ""This unique book caught my attention. It offers a fresh view on zombie stories . . . Despite the dark themes, it is not full of blood or gore; instead, the author uses emotions and well-developed characters to build tension and mystery. . . . That The Dead May Rest by Karen A. Wyle covers themes of guilt, death, healing, friendship, love, and doing what is right."" -- Readers' Favorite
