Bounty lands were grants of lands provided by the US Government to veterans who served in various military conflicts, including the Revolutionary War, War of 1812 and the Mexican War. The Revolutionary War was the only war in which Veterans were awarded lands within Tennessee. This book covers the governments offered these lands of the 1797 as both compensation and reward for military service. Veteran or their heirs could apply for Bounty Land, which then could be exchanged for vacant public lands. The size of the granted land varied in size depending rank and length of service. A preemption warrant was a warrant issued to a civil for settlement in these lands. To be eligible, a person had to reside in north central Tennessee before June 1, 1780. Many od the preemption warrants were sold, so the grantee was not always the person who qualified for the preemption warrant. The service right warrants were warrants that were issued to the surveyors and their helpers, The Full name index mentions approximately 3,000 individuals.
