Lyttelton-based photographer and writer Mark Watson has spent most of his life tramping, climbing and cycling among the ranges of New Zealand and many places overseas. Mark's outdoor and travel images have been widely published, while his writing reflects his experiences both in the backcountry and as a traveller. His other books include Our Mountains (with Paul Hersey) which showcased Mark's photography of 15 of New Zealand's most notable mountains and Photographing Aoraki Mount Cook which features his landscape images and intimate knowledge of the region. Previously, he has worked for the New Zealand Alpine Club as editor and designer for their guidebooks and journals. He has an editorial role at Wilderness magazine and has long been a contributing writer and photographer. No stranger to long distance, self propelled journeys, as well as Te Araroa, Mark has cycled from the Himalayan Plateau to Sumatra and from Alaska to Patagonia - the latter a journey of four years.
