Reviews for Survive and Thrive: 120 Ideas to Cultivate Your Leadership Agility

Survive and Thrive is a good reminder that the best leaders are curious, good communicators, have innate empathy and an ability to implement strategy effectively. Mike Ferraro Chief Executive Officer Alumina Limited Leadership... you can't drive high performance without it... and those who think it rests with one person.... the person with the title... are missing the point not to mention the opportunity. Andrew Williams' Survive and Thrive, 120 Ideas to Cultivate your Leadership Agility, is an excellent deep dive into how to build leadership in yourself and others. With a deft balance of theory, professional and personal experience and examples, as well as practical tips, Survive and Thrive is not only an engaging read, it's one of those books where you mark down pages, make mental notes and scribble in the margins knowing it will be a go-to reference for years to come. An insightful book for those deemed already at the top of their game but really want to challenge themselves and those around them, and a practical how-to for those with aspirations, Survive and Thrive is a must-read in today's rapidly changing and complex world. The book propositions us to challenge ourselves, step outside our comfort zones and lean into the sometimes scary and unknown, as an ongoing practice throughout our leadership journey. Congratulations on bringing it all together so succinctly and with such insight. Survive and Thrive is a fantastic book for anyone looking to improve their performance in the volatile and uncertain world in which we live. It will be extremely useful in an organisational setting (and it would have lots of application in personal and family situations too). The book brings together lots of practical experience based on decades of working with senior leaders in a wide range of industries along with strong support from links to the relevant research. I want to stress that this is a really practical book. The ideas are all explained in a straightforward way and the sections at the end of each chapter provide simple steps that the reader can take to apply the ideas. Not only is it full of great practical ideas - it is really well structured. The first section clearly sets up the main ideas from the book. This means that the reader can dip into individual chapters depending on interest or as needed. The three sections cover a broad range of aspects of developing agility - Thinking Differently, Engaging Differently, Acting Differently. Each of these sections has simple and at the same time profound ideas that can be applied by anyone looking to respond more effectively to the complex world in which we live. There is a lot of practical wisdom here. It is definitely the sort of book that the interested reader will refer back to again and again. If more people followed these simple steps, the world would be a better place. And we should all be very thankful to Andrew Williams for that.
