"Time stops. Nothing that mattered one minute ago is of any importance anymore. How do I tell my children and my husband that I may die? Is this the end or a detour? How can this be possible? ""I had no idea what the future held - whether I would be alive for one more day, or for even another hour. At that moment, the clock stopped... My boat had started to rock and I could not see a clear course forward through the oncoming storm."" The author shares her most personal thoughts, fears and triumphs over the most challenging year of her life and asks questions, brilliantly connecting to her readers. The voices of friends and family members ring true as they share their own experiences of fear and hope. We are moved to a powerfully emotional and honest reflection of our own beliefs and life's purpose. While travelling with the author and her family through their reflections, you will be empowered to advocate for yourself and others regardless of life challenges."

Reviews for Steering Through It

"""McLaughlin provides a strong, honest voice throughout this journey through her life-threatening illness. She shares her challenges and joys as a mother, a wife, a sister, a friend, a leader and a survivor!! It's a story of personal strength and a story of the power of a support group of family and friends and a medical team. I highly recommend it."" ""A beautiful memoir that will make you want to laugh and cry. Very well written - I read it all at once, couldn't put it down. Highly recommend EVERYONE read this book!"" ""...I found a tremendous amount of hope and inspiration in the author's voice, and admire the author's instinct to blend narrative with inner thought. Well done."" ""...What a gift. It really does take a village-Lynn is very fortunate to have the village she has-it is evident however, that she steers her own ship and through her telling this part of her life story, she will help her readers to steer their own - no matter what insurmountable challenges life brings. Thank you Lynn, you are an inspiration and a pivotal pioneer of self-love and healing."" ""...Lynn's narrative will inspire Doctors, Nurses and all healthcare practitioners to see their patients in a different ""light"" suggesting that we listen closer to them, we take the time to learn about their ""Story"" and to understand that they are not only a patient but a beloved mother, a sister, daughter and friend. It's then, when we understand this that we can provide the holistic care that every person deserves during their most difficult times in life."" ""I could really picture myself in her shoes and it was riveting and brought me to tears. She and her family handled what happened next with humanness and grace. I appreciate the format of the telling of her story from not just her perspective but the perspectives of those closest to her. When we are faced with a crisis, the effects branch out past the individual who is directly affected. To hear their viewpoints in addition to Lynn's, gives a voice to everyone involved and helps us to have compassion for each 'character' in our lives."" ""She takes you through it on a very personal level as a patient, mom, wife, sister, friend and daughter. Working in healthcare I find it compelling to be brought into all the emotion and uncertainty that our patients face every day. An excellent story teller. Looking forward to her next one!"" ""Steering Through It by Lynn Mclaughlin vividly captures the essence of emotions pouring over her in such an exceptional way I could feel them as my own, which shows how wonderfully talented she is as an author! Lynn Mclaughlin will captivate any reader brave enough to immerse themselves in the phenomenally uplifting pages of Steering Through It!"""
