Working out of her White House Dollhouse store, Liv is well-known for her knowledge about the First Ladies. She has historic White House settings, Civil War, and other important time periods of the Presidents' House. She passes on her knowledge of how the rose garden began with George Washington's vision and up to when Jackie Kennedy remodeled them.

When a New York City department store owner makes an appearance and places orders for several houses, Liv is excited. However, the pickup day for the houses, Liv found her dead with her head inside of a dollhouse.

Clues abound in embroidery and letters from Dolley Madison. A jewelry heist from Montpelier, the Madison Estate, points to the pair of cuff links owned by Liv's grandpa. This is when she realizes what the killer is after.

Reviews for Spangled to Death: A White House Dollhouse Store Mystery

An unexpected discovery of letters from Dolley Madison should excite Liv, but instead it leads her into a tangle of theft, murder and bewildering clues. Spangled to Death draws upon important historic facts to solve a modern-day mystery. Barbara Schlichting blends American history with modern-day murder in this charming debut mystery. I enjoyed following Liv on her exploits to expose a deadly killer, but even more fun was the discovery of the historical artifacts as the story progressed. The ending was terrifically satisfying, with all the stray knots tied neatly into place. I'm anxious to read book two in this delightful new series!
