""Sophia and Alex Prepare for Kindergarten"" is one of eleven volumes in the ""Sophia and Alex"" series, written by author Denise Bourgeois-Vance and illustrated by artist Damon Danielson. This is a book intended to provide a review of preschool prior to a child attending their first day of kindergarten. Sophia and Alex look back over their graduation from preschool and prepare themselves for a new adventure in learning. Fun games are implemented to review concepts of math, reading, and writing so as to lessen any anxiety associated with attending a new school.

The 32-page illustrated book informs parents the levels of competence their child should obtain as they enter kindergarten. Both parent and child learn fun activities that can be applied at home while reviewing such things as counting, color identification, reciting the alphabet, and good behavior in the classroom. A child that is socially, emotionally, and academically ready for kindergarten is destined to thrive in their new environment.

Each book in the ""Sophia and Alex"" series draws on storylines based on common events found in the life of an early learner. Children relate to the multi-cultural characters and learn the art of acceptance and inclusion in school and home settings. Through the use of dual text, a child can simultaneously learn to read in Italian or English while better expressing themselves in each. Author Denise Bourgeois-Vance is a bilingual immigrant to the United States. She holds a degree in Social Science from Washington State University and has worked as a preschool teacher and Family Support Specialist. She is a mother and grandmother, currently living in Washington State with her husband and daughter. Artist Damon Danielson is a gifted children's book illustrator with over 20 years of art and illustration experience. He has worked with preschool and elementary-aged children, developing artwork, curriculum, and activities. Damon and his family live in the greater Atlanta, GA area, where they own and operate a graphic arts company.
