Liao Hongjian, PhD, is currently a Professor and the Head of Department of Civil Engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University. She graduated with a B.Eng. degree in 1985 and was awarded a M.Sc. degree in 1987 from the Department of Civil Engineering, Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology. She received a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from the Department of Civil Engineering, Tokai University, Japan in 1996. She is a member of the International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, International Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment, and International Society for Rock Mechanics. She is also a Director of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, a Standing Director of the Environmental Geotechnical branch of Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, a Deputy Chairman of the Specialized Committee of Soil Mechanics Teaching of the soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering branch of China Civil Engineering Society, a Director of the Specialized Committee of Soil and Rock Mechanics branch of Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, and a Deputy Chairman of Shaanxi Society for Rock-Soil Mechanics and Engineering. She is an editorial board member of the Chinese Journal of Rock and Soil Mechanics and Chinese Journal of Underground Space and Engineering. She has taught soil mechanics for more than 30 years, including courses on soil mechanics, engineering geology, and advanced soil mechanics. Li Hangzhou, PhD, is an Associate Professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University. His research interests include constitutive model of geomaterials and stability of unground excavations. He received a B.Eng. degree from China University of Mining and Technology in 2000, a M.Sc. Degree from Xi'an University and Science and Technology in 2003 and a PhD degree from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2007. He worked as a research fellow in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, from 2008-2010. His research projects include funding from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and Shaanxi Province Government. He has published more than 40 papers in academic journals and academic conferences. He is a member of the Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering, and Shaanxi Society for Rock-Soil Mechanics and Engineering. Ma Zongyuan, PhD, is an Associate Professor at the Xi'an University of Technology. He specializes in computational geomechanics and earthquake engineering. His work focuses on the slope stability and seismic analysis of geotechnical engineering. He obtained his PhD from Xi'an Jiaotong University (solid mechanics) in 2011, and then he joined the Xi'an University of Technology as a lecturer in the Institute of Geotechnical Engineering. In earlier days, he received his M.Sc. degree from Chang'an University in 2006. He worked as a research fellow in Colorado School of Mines, USA, from 2018-2019. He is the member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and International Society for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (ISSMG). He is a reviewer on several international peer-reviewed journals, e.g., Journal of Engineering Mechanics ASCE, International Journal of Geomechnics ASCE, and Marine Georesources & Geotechnology. Dr Ma is author and co-author of over 10 research publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
