Corey's mom tried to shield her son from the ugly truth of his father's past. But this was next to impossible, given his father's high-profile success as a professional baseball pitcher. As Corey got older, the kids in school harassed him about the shame of his father's past. In high school, things got even darker. The high school star athlete and school bully Donald haunted him daily. When Corey became an unlikely star baseball pitcher who threw an unstoppable slider, Donald didn't like being nudged out of the limelight. Drugs, murder, and darkness lingered wherever Corey traveled from North Adams to the Cape Cod League to Worcester when he joined the WoSox and finally to Boston at Fenway Park. The bright spot in his life was when he met a sweet girl named Courtney while working at Paradise Pizza at the Cape, but even that was rocky. This baseball story not only weaves a riveting, shocking tale of retribution but also provides historical tidbits and enchanting geographical details about North Adams, Cape Cod, Fenway Park, and Boston, enriching the reader's knowledge. Colorful characters, beautiful settings, and surprising twists make Slider a compelling and engaging read: a book that you won't want to put down.
