SKIPSHOCK is a future-minded Wizard of Oz, meets Hunger Games with smatterings of inter dimensional travel. It consumed my every waking and sleeping thought while reading. Every wink and nod to her exceptional dissection of pop culture is bliss. Yes, on the surface it’s a love story about an Irish teen and an otherworldly young salesman, up against the odds, but at its heart it is just THEMES. I am just absolutely jaw on floor at the turns of phrase, the detailed world building and heart. The parallels between the political hellspace kids are up against today, the commentary on aging and protecting childhood even when we’re up against everything the world is throwing at us; that adults are throwing at us, is exceptional. I cannot wait to read this and the sequel (bring on next year) again with my daughter in a decade because this is timeless, faultless storytelling. * @book_smut, Instragram *
