Historian Peter Cochrane is the author of the critically acclaimed companion volume to the ABC television series Australians at War (ABC Books, 2001); Simpson and the Donkey: The Making of a Legend (Melbourne University Press, 1992, to be revised 2014)) and Colonial Ambition: Foundations of Australian Democracy (Melbourne University Publishing, 2007), which won the inaugural Prime Minister's History Award and The Age Book of the Year Award.
