Shepherds of the Flock is intended to help equip fellow elders and elder chairmen with wisdom God has graciously given the author through the word, experience, and other godly people. Shepherds of the Flock is divided into three sections depending on where an individual is in their service as elder. The first section, ""A Shepherd's Character,"" is the baseline biblical context for qualifications to serve as an elder and provides tips for serving. This section is a good reminder for an experienced elder and a good starting point for a new elder, perhaps serving for the first time. The second section, ""A Shepherd's Work: Shepherding the Flock,"" is a challenge to focus on the 1 Peter 5:2 mandate to shepherd those in our congregations and provides some useful tools on how to do that effectively. The final section, ""Shepherding the Shepherds,"" focuses on elders encouraging and shepherding fellow elders, whether in the role of chairman or as a co-laborer for the Lord. Anthony Tako's prayer is that this book, combined with the practical discussion guides at the end of each chapter, will be a useful equipping tool for the encouragement and effectiveness of elders and church leaders.

Reviews for Shepherds of the Flock: Key Things Elders Can Do Now to Lead More Effectively

""Anthony Tako is a genuine follower of Jesus Christ. I was blessed to serve under his leadership as an elder in our local church. I could not think of a man more gifted by the Lord to lead as an Elder Chairman. He truly is a shepherd of the elders and the entire church body. Everything discussed in this book has been lived out in front of me."" --David Corning, Chairman, Entrusted Ministries ""This book will make an impact on the leadership of the church! Elders are called to shepherd the flock and yet, often, lack practical guidance. This exceedingly helpful book provides the necessary list to pursue God's heart as a church leader. The book fills a void by combining sound theology with practical application; a book I wish I would have had prior to my board service. Thank you, Anthony, for calling us to serve wholeheartedly and serve with excellence."" --Duane Martin, Former Chairman of the Board, Greater Europe Mission ""An excellent resource for the function and ministry of Elders! Anyone who aspires to the work and ministry of being an elder will find this book a sound, clear, and excellent guide. I am very thankful for the experience and wisdom in the book."" --David E. Smith, Executive Director, Illinois Family Institute ""Books on leadership abound. Books on church leadership, not so much. There are precious few that highlight the qualifications and roles of elders, particularly the role of the elder chairman. Anthony Tako has written a helpful, practical guide to fill the gap. He is qualified to do so. With six years of experience as a deacon, and then nine years as an elder (the last three as chairman), he has gleaned a great deal of both biblical and practical wisdom. And he lives it out. I know this, because he was the chairman at my church. So, I recommend this book for anyone who has the privilege of serving as an elder, whether they have been in the role for years or were just recently appointed. It would be good for an elder board to study together, as a way of collectively honing their craft. My friend is willing to share wisdom with you. Let his pain be your gain."" --David W. Jones, Senior Pastor, Village Church of Barrington
