Reviews for Sew Home: Learn Design Basics, Techniques, Fabrics & Supplies

Treat your home to a makeover with your sewing skills. Create fabulous projects that turn a house into a home. Home decor and interior design projects for all skills with professional designer tips. You'll find 31 projects for windows, linens, storage, rugs, pillows and more. This book includes Design, Fabric Basics, Window Treatments, Linens for bedroom, bathroom and kitchen, Storage, Walls and Floors and the Outdoors. You'll discover questions to help you make design decisions about your decor; line drawings and photos. There are plenty of projects for graded skill levels, so even if you only have the basics, you can start to make straight away. I like the cornice (pelmet cover), twisted table runner and pineapple hot pad. All the storage solutions look great. I was surprised to see Drapes (curtains) labelled as skill level 3, I am not a highly skilled sewer, but I have made curtains for years. The bed skirt looked more complicated to me but was graded as Skill level 2 as was the duvet cover. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. yarnsandfabrics.co.uk, 9/4/16 Many sewing books contain home decor projects but few delve into the topic the way sewist and first-time author Schlosser, whose background is in interior design, does. Introducing home sewists to basic interior design principles, she provides advice for choosing and using home decor fabrics, and presents a series of projects ranging from simple curtains and linens to professional-quality window treatments and decorative accessories. Each project includes step-by-step instructions, as well as measuring and cutting guides, a supply list, and a summary of techniques used. Incorporated throughout are design tips and suggestions for further customization. VERDICT Schlosser's expertise, combined with the uncommon focus on professional-quality home decor projects, make this an excellent addition to sewing collections. Library Journal, 10/15/2016
