BRIAN MILLER is an independent secondary education consultant with over 45 years' experience in English and History teaching, Teacher-Librarianship, Senior Professional Officer roles for the NSW Dept. of Education, Deputy Principal in three high schools and Principal of a large, multicultural HS, which achieved exceptionally high value-added results during his tenure. Mid-career, he lectured in the Secondary Teacher Education degree for over a decade at the University of Western Sydney, fulfilling several leadership roles such as Course and Practicum Coordinator and Head of Program. At UWS, he initiated the Classmates Secondary Teacher Education Program, the first school-based secondary teacher qualification program in Australia. He was the NSW Secondary Principal Council representative on NSW Education Standards Authority's (NESA) Quality Teaching Committee and Chair of NESA's Moderating and Consistency Committee (MCC) which oversighted all submissions for higher accreditation. He was Deputy Chair of NESA's Initial Teacher Education Committee (ITEC) which accredited all NSW Teacher Education Programs. In 2015 he was seconded to NSW DoE's Leadership and High Performance Directorate where he created and led the NSW DoE Leadership Development Initiative 2016-19, the major NSW DoE leadership development program at that time. He authored Leadership Reflection Tools for Lead and Highly Accomplished and the Leading Teaching and Learning module for the Leadership and Management Credential for aspiring NSW DoE Principals.Brian has designed and delivered many hundreds of professional learning sessions in his specialist areas of academic and critical literacy; instructional leadership; school strategic planning; higher accreditation; mentoring and coaching school executive staff; evaluative thinking and curriculum design, especially in terms of intellectual quality and EAL/D perspectives. He has delivered numerous keynote presentations for professional associations at state, national and international levels. Since 2017, after retiring from the NSW Dept. of Education, he has worked with over 50 state high schools, where his consultancy work continues to be in high demand.
