ABBEY'S BOOKSELLER PICK ----- Part of the Nature Storybook series, where the text is divided between fact and story (differentiated by font), this one covers the life of a kauri tree in the oldest rainforest on Earth, the Daintree. From a tiny seed dropped 200 years ago that manages not to be eaten by the wildlife, a seedling emerges. As it grows through the years, different inhabitants of the rainforest interact with it – birds, butterflies, insects, marsupials, frogs, lizards – and finally it reaches the stage when it will form cones to release its own seeds. Illustrations are loosely formed and impressionistic in style, muted in tone as befits the rainforest; the text is straightforward when it needs to be (the factual paragraphs) and energetic when the story of the kauri is told. Ages 5-8. Lindy

Nature Storybooks Every wonderful word is true! In the oldest rainforest on Earth, on the oldest continent, a seed falls to the ground. Over hundreds of years, the seed will grow into a sapling reaching for the sunlight, to become a tree towering above the rainforest canopy. Generations of insects, butterflies, bird, lizards, snakes and an abundance of native wildlife will bear witness to the magnificent Bull Kauri pine...
