Layla Slater was born and raised in Monmouth, Illinois, where she became the first in her family to attend college. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Illinois University and a Master of Arts degree in environmental studies from the University of Illinois at Springfield.Layla now serves as the operations manager of Slater Wealth Management, the Peoria-based firm she co-owns with her husband, Brian. She is deeply committed to her community, serving on the board of Family House of Peoria, volunteering for the Hydrocephalus Association, and advocating as an Epilepsy Awareness Ambassador. Her dedication has been recognized with the Career Leader of the Year award from Women in Leadership of Central Illinois.Outside of her professional and volunteer work, Layla enjoys creating art, attending local theater and symphony performances, and staying active through yoga and hiking. She lives in Peoria, Illinois, with her husband and their dogs, Loki and Bentley. She also treasures time spent with her adult children, Noah and Abigail.Layla hopes her story will inspire others to embrace perseverance, faith, and hope, even in challenging times. She has included resources in her book to support readers in managing physical and mental health and navigating special education. Passionate about advocacy, she is available for speaking engagements to educate school staff about epilepsy in the classroom and guide parents through the IEP and 504 plan process.
