Professor Ranjan R. Kelkar had a long career with the India Meteorological Department and was its Director General from 1998 to 2003. Earlier, he was the President of the Indian Meteorological Society, the Permanent Representative of India with the World Meteorological Organization, Geneva, and an elected Member of the WMO Executive Council. After retiring from IMD in 2003, he was ISRO Space Chair Professor at the University of Pune until 2008. He lives in Pune and is engaged in demystifying meteorology as a freelance writer, speaker and blogger. He has authored several books, of which BSP Books has published Monsoon Prediction, Climate Change- A Holistic View and Weather Satellites.
