Rough Guides are written by expert authors who are passionate about both writing and travel. They have detailed knowledge of the areas they write about--having either traveled extensively or lived there--and their expertise shines through on every page. It's priceless information, delivered with wit and insight, providing the down-to-earth, honest read that is the hallmark of Rough Guides. Andrew Beattie studied geography at Oxford University and has been writing and travelling ever since. He has worked on books in the Rough Guides series on Switzerland, Germany and Syria and has previously written about the Lake Geneva region in his cultural guide to the Alps, published by Signal Books; his other books for Signal are cultural guides to the Scottish Highlands, the River Danube, Cairo and Prague, and he has also written a walking guide to the Swiss region of Ticino for Cicerone Press. Home (when he's not travelling) is in Southeast London. Beth Williams is a travel writer and editor for Rough Guides. She has lived in the USA and Germany, before coming home to East London. Her adventures have taken her to Southeast Asia, USA and through much of continental Europe. She likes seeking out new dishes she hasn't tried before and is a firm believer that you can tell a lot about a country from its local food market. Daniel Stables is a travel writer based in Manchester, UK. He writes travel articles for National Geographic and the BBC, and his debut narrative travel book, Fiesta: A Journey Through Festivity is coming out in early 2026. He also hosts a podcast, Hungry Ghosts, about food and travel. You can find his work on X @DanStables, Instagram @DanStabs, or at his website, danielstables.co.uk. Joanna Reeves is a Sussex-based travel writer and editor who has updated several UK-based Rough Guides, including parts of the Rough Guides to England and Great Britain. She is also the editor of the brand-new Rough Guide to Slow Travel in Europe.
