Restorative Justice: Outside the Inside of Illinois is at once both a program concept and a proposal. After more than 28 years in prison in Illinois, the author has researched and developed an idea for reforming the very notion of being a ""returning citizen"", offering hope for those incarcerated AND for the citizens who underwrite the costs of criminal justice.
Restorative Justice offers a detailed plan including involvement of businesses, farmers, veterans, and the community in a comprehensive approach to reentry. Providing parolees with the tools and resources necessary to succeed is front and center, along with skills training, a plan for housing, and the support from the community.
From the perspectives of the victims of crime, the offenders, the criminal justice system and the taxpayers who fund it, this work is an important contribution to the reform of our system of rehabilitation. It deserves the attention of all who are affected by this societal issue.
