In Reflecting Shekinah: Feminine Images of the Divine and Women's Sense of Self, Barbara Wieler reflects on the nature and significance of the relationship between feminine images of the Divine and the sense of self for women from the Mennonite tradition.

Barbara Wieler approaches this question by interviewing six women with varied backgrounds and connections to the Mennonite church. Their discussions cover a number of topics, all revolving around the impact of imaging and experiencing the Divine as female as opposed to exclusively male on their relationships with themselves and others. Parenting, intimacy, and faith are just some of the areas explored, and the author derives implications not only for the women but also the church, counsellors, and feminist theory overall.

Through her methodology, Ms. Wieler presents her research in a personal and accessible way, and her strength as a communicator makes this book a valuable read for academics and laypeople alike.

Barbara R. Wieler holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Education (Educational Psychology - Counselling). Additionally, she worked as a Registered Nurse for 40 years, graduated from a 3-year theology program at what is now known as the Canadian Mennonite University, and completed a diploma in interior decorating. Ms. Wieler was adopted into a Mennonite family at birth. She is currently exploring her new-found Metis ancestry and identity. She enjoys creating beauty and sacred space as well as various other creative pursuits including writing. She loves to travel. She lives in Alberta with her two small dogs, whom she considers her messages of love from the Universe.
