Maria Gallucci is a multi-award-winning real estate agent, a proud CODA (Child of Deaf Adults), and a lifelong advocate for inclusive communication. Growing up as one of six hearing children raised by Deaf parents, Maria learned American Sign Language before English and acted as an unofficial interpreter, helping her parents buy a home when she was 12 years old. Her childhood shaped her passion for helping people feel seen and respected, especially those who are often overlooked or misunderstood. For more than 30 years, Maria has supported homebuyers from all walks of life with a special focus on serving the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and LGBTQ+ communities. She's the founder of Uptown Realty Group and Gallucci Homes, a top-producing agent at Compass Real Estate, and among the top 1.5% of agents nationwide. She also founded ASL @ Compass Affinity group and ASL Realty, a national platform connecting Deaf and Hard of Hearing clients with agents who communicate in American Sign Language. Outside of real estate, Maria serves on the boards of the Rocky Mountain Deaf School, DOVE (Deaf Overcoming Violence through Empowerment), and CAD (Colorado Association of the Deaf). She's passionate about language access, cultural inclusion, and creating spaces where everyone truly belongs. Maria's motto-just try-is a reminder that meaningful connection can start with one small step. You don't have to be perfect to communicate with someone who's different from you. You don't even have to speak their language. You just need to be willing to try. Raised in Silence is Maria's first book, a love letter to the community that brought her up and a guide for anyone seeking to bridge communication gaps in their own life.

Reviews for Raised In Silence: Lessons on Listening, Love, and Loud Family Dinners From a Child of Deaf Adults

""A deeply personal glimpse into the experience of being Deaf. This book is a beautiful contribution to the conversation around identity, culture, and connection. I'm grateful for the space it creates to amplify diverse voices and lived truths.""- Cliff Moers, former Director of Colorado Commission for the Deaf, HoH, and DeafBlind ""Maria's story will change how you think about communication and what it means to show up for people on their terms. As someone who knows Maria from her success in the real estate world, she could have written about that. Instead, she wrote a deeply impactful book about being better to your fellow humans. This book is an unforgettable reminder that being willing to meet other people where they are, even when their world looks different from yours, can unlock the most important connections in your life.""-Robert Reffkin, founder and CEO of Compass ""This book is a treasure. A wonderful portrayal of Deaf culture and community experiences through the eyes of a CODA.""-Sabrina, Director of Deaf Overcoming Violence through Empowerment ""American Sign Language is the transformative river that flows through the United States, engraving humanity's greatest gift into every generation. This book helps bridge that gap.""-Jake Pfau-Martinez, President of Colorado Association of the Deaf ""This book sheds light on what it's like to be a hearing person growing up in the Deaf community and the unique challenges that can come with that.""-Cody, CODA ""This book is a quiet revelation. It's a tender, empathetic portrait of life within the Deaf and HoH, told with grace and clarity. It welcomes readers with open arms, offering deep inclusiveness without pretense, and reminds us to listen beyond words. A profoundly moving, human story that lingers with warmth and joy through hardship.""-Mila, advocate ""Brava!! I applaud Maria for giving such a candid and intimate look into the life of a Deaf family and on growing up as a CODA. This is a beautiful and important book about love and resilience that everyone needs to read.""-MT, philanthropist ""As a CODA with sign language as her first language, Maria is the perfect candidate to write about how people in the Deaf community struggle to navigate the hearing world in their daily lives. She has also served the Deaf community for years in her real estate business, which puts her in the perfect position to share her life experiences and those of the Deaf and HoH.""-Anonymous ""Powerful, compassionate, and real, this book sheds light on what it truly means to belong in the Deaf community.""- Melissa, Treasurer, Rocky Mountain Deaf School, Board of Directors and proud mother of a HoH/Deaf daughter ""Active listening and communication is critical in any relationship. Maria's book helps us apply those skills to better connect with those in the Deaf and HoH.""-Heather Bustos, Regional Vice President for Compass ""Maria Gallucci is a rare force in this world. She is powerful in purpose, compassionate in presence, and deeply committed to making a meaningful impact through every word she writes in this amazing book!""-Skye Michiels, CEO of With Heart Coaching ""Powerful. Magnificent. Courageous.""-John, retired from the Department of Defense, Air Reserve Personnel Center HQ ""Maria really becomes vulnerable as she shares her story in this book. While growing up, she didn't realize having Deaf parents was unique as it was her normal. In this beautiful book about home being family, Maria brings a special perspective to life as we know it in the stories she shares here. This is a must-read for anyone wanting to be part of and do right in promoting a more inclusive world.""-Nadelle, Deaf adult and educator
