Prayer serves as the central aspect of the Christian life, by which our faith is formed and by which we offer thanksgiving and praise. The act of prayer was central to the early Irish monastics, serving as a vital aspect of their spirituality and religious practice. The Portus na hEireann, or ""Irish Breviary,"" is a Divine Office text based on the prayers and practices used within the Columbanian tradition. The new edition consists of an additional chapter that offers instructions on how to pray, a new format intended for group worship. These additions offer beginners a brief introduction and guidance on praying the Hours, while including all canonical hours' prayers as established within the early Irish church, with every psalm according to the Douay-Rheims Bible.

Reviews for Portús Na Héireann, Second Edition: A Book of Hours According to the Columbanian Tradition

Praise for the first edition ""We are formed--for good or for ill--by what we practice, and this book is a welcome reminder that the practice of praying the hours has played and can still play a formative role in nurturing Christian faith. At the same time, by taking us into the Celtic tradition, Dustin Ashley's work does a great service by connecting us to an important and sometimes neglected stream of forebears among our 'great cloud of witnesses.'"" --Gary S. Selby, Emmanuel Christian Seminary
