The authors of this volume concentrate on the recent progress of novel polyoxometalate (POM) syntheses, as well as advances made in catalytic, electrochemical, and sensing systems. The state-of-the-art techniques such as flow system and gel-electrophoresis for the discovery of POMs are covered with a detailed discussion. Of particular importance, the application of POM-based materials in photo-sensing, heterogeneous catalysis, energy conservation and storage, and gas separation is reviewed. 

Over the past few years, POM chemistry has witnessed a remarkable progress with more than 1500 papers published each year. Due to their intrinsic structural features, POMs are considered as versatile building blocks for the construction of sophisticated complex assemblies and advanced multi-functional materials. Prof. Dr. Yu-Fei SONG received his BS (1997) and PhD (2002) degree from Shanxi University. After postdoc research in Leiden University (2002-2004, The Netherlands, Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Jan Reedijk), Max-Planck Institute of Bio-inorganic Chemistry (2004-2005, Germany, Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Karl Wieghardt), and The University of Glasgow (2005-2008, UK, Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Leroy Cronin), he joined Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) in Sep, 2008. He is currently holding a full professor position in the State Key Laboratory of Chemical Resource Engineering, BUCT. His research directions mainly focus on the polyoxometalate-based molecular assemblies and multifunctional materials. He has published over 120 research papers in SCI journals and received the following awards “New Century Excellent Talent of Ministry of Education” (2009); “National Science Foundation for Excellent Young Scholars of China” (2012); “ChangJiang Scholars Program-Young Scholars, Ministry of Education” (2015); and “National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars of China” (2016).
