The book enriches the topic related to the study of corrosion in steel by offering mathematically justified and theoretically argued original solutions for establishing the influence on steel depending on the time and category of corrosion.

The first chapter presents a synthesis of the historical development of methodologies related to the concept of dimensioning, operational reliability and mathematical processing of experimental results. The basic principles of the steps before creating computational models related to mechanics and structural analysis in case of random events are also considered. The material is presented briefly and at a high scientific level.

The second chapter provides a brief summary and a brief review of the theoretical basis and methodology, giving almost all formulas together with their justification and conclusion. This description discusses the known mathematical models with their practical significance in mechanics, allowing to establish the variations in the behavior of different types of experimental data, their mathematical processing and obtaining the final result.

The third chapter is entirely devoted to establishing the polynomial functions for changing the mechanical properties of corroded steel. Two main approaches are proposed: stochastic and arithmetic mean. Due to the wide variety of reasons on which the development of corrosion depends, and the lack of a universal method for its determination, theoretical methods are summarized and are related to the obtained experimental results, characteristic of the type of production and the environment in which the corroded steel is located. The functions are compiled on the basis of experimental results and functional equations are established for predicting the change in the main indicators depending on the time and category of corrosion.

In the final part, the necessity, contribution and practical application of the established and derived computational functions are justified through the use of theoretical methods.

Undoubtedly, the book provides analytical merits for the use of polynomial functions in engineering and scientific practice. The experimentally established polynomial dependencies represent an original scientific results with a clearly expressed practical results to the development of statistical mechanics, combined with experimental results and mathematical arguments.
