An 18 year old African-American student named Justine Alexander has been admitted into Braden University, the most prestigious college in the country, and the school that she and people like her were unable to attend only a year earlier because Braden University was considered a historically white elite school, until the government filed a discrimination lawsuit against the school which they won. Now that Braden University was being forced to accept minority students, Justine and three other students like her were fortunate enough to receive enough scholarship money to attend Braden. Their time at Braden would not be easy as they would have to overcome racism and discrimination from both students and faculty, but they held fast to their goals and each other. Luckily, not everyone at Braden was against them. Dean Joseph Willows was their number one supporter and did all he could to guide them to success, but things take a turn for the worst when Erica, Justine's roommate and best friend attempts suicide in their dorm room while Justine was asleep only a few feet away.
