Karen Karbiener is a Master Teacher of Liberal Studies at NYU with a PhD from Columbia University. As a scholar of 19th-century American literature and culture with a special interest in Walt Whitman, she is the author of The Modern Scholar lecture series: Walt Whitman and the Birth of Modern American Poetry. She lives in New York City.Freelance illustrator and fine artist Kate Evans has worked for many high-profile clients, including Random House, HarperCollins, V and A Magazine, The Guardian, and National Geographic.
