Poems of spiritual insight that reflect personal experience, often expressed in concepts from Eastern metaphysical philosophy as well as with interfaith concepts and ideas about our common humanity. Written by a student of yoga and Indian spiritual thought since the mid-1970s, and influenced by studies at an interfaith seminary since having been ordained as an interfaith minister in 2011. A good number of these pieces in rhyming verse, while some, like the Conscious Constitution may not really qualify as a poem at all, though it certainly takes poetic license in combining Eastern spiritual concepts with a sort of a mash-up of elements of the Constitution of the United States, and the Gettysburg Address.

These renderings are gleaned from life, as expressions of personal-mostly inner-experience. They reflect themes, events, and musings that became so strong as to bid the author to commit them to this form, and now to share them with readers.

Reviews for Poetic License: Reflections and Renderings

Poetic License: Reflections and Renderings is a gift to the universe. Larry has shared a few poems with me in the past but this collection is a feast! I've known him for years as a serious sociallyinvolved intellectual on a path of spiritual discovery. But in this collection, I met another side of him: the poet who does not describe or explain the truth, but more honestly alludes to it. If poetry is a way of speaking beyond words, Larry is a master. There is no seraphic spiritual sentiment but rather a gutsy spirituality embedded in social tragedies, tender love, societal conflict, spiritual seeking, and the ecumenical search for an elusive truth. Like spiritual compasses, Larry's poems are not the destination, but they point a way forward. -DANIEL S. BENVENISTE, PhD, Psychoanalyst, former Director of two training programs for doctorallevel psychology students, author of The Interwoven Lives of Sigmund, Anna and W. Ernest Freud
