Allen Glazner is Distinguished Professor of Geology Emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He earned a B.A. in Geology from Pomona College and a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of California at Los Angeles. An award-winning teacher specializing in igneous petrology, tectonics, and geoinformatics, he is also author of five books in the popular Geology Underfoot.series. Matt Kohn is Distinguished Professor in Geosciences at Boise State University. He earned a B.S. in Geology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Geology from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He uses geochemistry of metamorphic rocks to investigate orogenesis and geochemistry of fossil teeth to study Cenozoic paleoclimate and paleoecology. His book Tested describes his adventures in China during the pandemic.
The text is written so the student knows that not all questions in petrology are answered yet. The writing is engaging and pushes students to ask questions, and then the text provides tools to help the students answer those questions. - Jason Ricketts, University of Texas, El Paso I think (very strongly!!) the organization presented here is an improvement over the traditional approach. - Matthew Brueseke, Kansas State University The tone, approach, everything is far superior to the texts I have learned and taught from. It also inspired me to think about how I am teaching and how I could improve in the classroom. - Carrie Menold, Albion College The examples and toolboxes show real solutions to problems that students might encounter in research or future studies. - Mary Fidler, Clemson University The text fits perfectly with modern geoscience curricula that emphasize integration of plate tectonics throughout courses. - Joshua Schwartz, California State University, Northridge The figures are excellent, clear and well thought out. They are quite useful for teaching the material. - Zachary D. Atlas, University of South Florida
