Britain, 1819: Having returned from service in the Napoleonic Wars to prolonged economic hardship for his family, cotton miller Joseph (David Moorst) was willing to be amongst the 60,000 gathered at St. Peter's Field in Manchester to rally for universal suffrage. The efforts of government forces to break up the gathering resulted in 18 dead and 700 wounded. Mike Leigh's sobering historical snapshot also stars Rory Kinnear, Maxine Peake, Pearce Quigley, Neil Bell, Sam Troughton.
