DANIEL BERKOVIC holds a PhD in Hebrew Old Testament linguistics from Middlesex University, UK, and a second PhD in biblical psalmody from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, where he is associate professor of Hebrew, Old Testament studies and Modern Hebrew. He is also a full-time lecturer and director of the Center for Biblical Research at the Biblical Institute, Zagreb, and a lecturer at the Matthias Flacius Illyricus University Centre for Protestant Theology, Croatia.
The central problem this study focuses on is the existence of the poetic subject/narrator of the psalms as a physical and spiritual being. The author's fundamental thesis is well-argued from the perspective of cognitive linguistics and is illustrated with many appropriate quotations from the Bible. Boris Beck, PhD Associate Professor, Faculty of Political Science, University of Zagreb, Croatia This is a valuable biblical-theological research text. It is a work that makes an important contribution to the anthropological study of biblical figures and, in this case, of the psalmist King David. This study is primarily aimed at the wider scholarly community, particularly in the field of theology and biblical studies, but I believe it will be of great interest to a wider readership interested in the Bible.
