This monograph aims to address parental alienation, a social, psychological, and legal phenomenon that has reached global proportions, considering the seriousness of the damage caused by conflicts over custody between parents and children resulting from the breakdown of the parents' relationship. It covers general aspects, starting with historical developments, concepts, Brazilian legal proceedings, and existing controversies in the legal and medical fields regarding its scientific validity. It presents an analysis of each of the legal sanctions against the alienator, provided for in items I to VII of Article 6 of Law 12,318 of 26 August 2010, and the jurisprudential views of the courts on this issue of important relevance to society. Finally, it addresses the recent changes introduced by Law 13,058 of 22 December 2014 and their effects on the Brazilian legal system, which establishes shared custody as a form of inhibition.
