"A MEMOIR OF LEADERSHIP, IMPACT & FAITH
Growing up among sports royalty in Boulder, Colorado, Bill Lam was taught one mantra: compete hard and win. He excelled as a star wrestler at the University of Oklahoma, adopting the ""three periods of a champion"" ethos-talent, hard work, and heart-instilled by his coach. For thirty years, he molded champions as head wrestling coach at the University of North Carolina, transforming the program into a national force.

Lam played as hard as he worked, earning a reputation for more than just wins. He himself had to journey through the three periods of a champion, maturing in the process. And at the height of his success, a wake-up call forced him to confront life's ""overtime.""

In Overtime: The Three Periods of a Champion and What Comes After, readers enter the competitive world of college sports and witness one man's evolution through life's tough lessons, as he fights to emerge a better person on the other side."

Reviews for Overtime: The Three Periods of a Champion and What Comes After

"Coach Bill Lam doesn't just speak about leadership or write about leadership-he lives leadership. In Overtime, he gives highly practical wisdom on how to achieve the heights of success using his own personal example. But then, he writes, there is more. There is overtime, which is where my husband's life intersected with his. As a result, I observed firsthand not only Coach Lam's phenomenal success, but his servant leadership that truly makes him one of the GOATs. ANNE GRAHAM LOTZ, International Bible Teacher & Bestselling Author Bill Lam's life is one of challenges, achievements, and triumphs, as well as failures, growth, and spiritual fulfillment. This book tells his story with blunt honesty. It is a beautiful example of a man's maturity over time, and a reflection of what drove his competitiveness and athletic success and, more importantly, the ultimate acceptance of his Christian faith. JOHN SWOFFORD, UNC Dir. of Athletics 1980-1997, ACC Commissioner 1997-2021 Coach Lam is the quintessential high-impact, gritty leader. His powerfully motivating and demanding leadership compelled his athletes to achieve their full potential on the mat. More importantly, the principles Coach instilled in us also drove us to achieve our full potential in life. His book is a must-read for determined overachievers. JOSEPH GALLI JR., CEO, Techtronic Industries Company Limited (TTI) Overtime is a terrific read. It reminds us how we are designed to be developed physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It demonstrates how we are not ""finished products"" and the light within each of us should be encouraged to shine brightly. This book will not only inspire you but give you a perspective of what it means to be ""elite."" MARK MANNING, Head Wrestling Coach, University of Nebraska I watched Bill's rise through the coaching ranks, and saw his deep and sincere desire to help others be the best they can be. I wish everyone, especially younger competitors, could have the good fortune I've had to know and respect a man like Bill Lam. His book is darn good too! WAYNE WELLS, 1970 World Champion, 1972 Olympic Champion If you want to succeed in business, read this book! Coach Lam's successful coaching principles are clearly transferrable to any endeavor: showing up, outworking your opponent, and consistent effort will give you the edge in the business world. CARTER MARIO, Owner, Carter Mario Law Firm Coach Lam has always emphasized the complete package-the need to be physically, psychologically, and spiritually disciplined so that you receive the most out of your life. You will not be disappointed in this book; you will find yourself reading it again and again. PASTOR JAMIE KJOS, Lead Pastor, Brightmoor Christian Church, Novi, MI Coach Bill Lam is a man who has the heart of a warrior. He shows by example what it means to depend upon God. This book will be a tremendous building block for those seeking a closer relationship with the Lord. THE REVEREND MAL WILLIAMS, Nashville, NC It has been an honor to call Coach Lam my friend for 20+ years, and I have learned much from his dedicated life. The rough-and-tough individualist has become an inspirational servant leader, offering hope and positive transformation for all. PASTOR RON LEWIS, Founder, King's Park International Churches, Raleigh-Durham, NC I appreciate and relate to a lot of Coach Lam's journey. Becoming great in sports, business, or life requires talent, hard work, and heart-not just one, but all three. JANICE NEAREN-BELL, Former Vice President of Sales, Paychex, Inc."
