Marcia Johnson has been a law professor for thirty years. She is the founder of the Earl Carl Institute for Legal and Social Policy, Inc., which provides legal services and advocacy in areas of social justice. She is a co-founder of the Urban Research and Resource Center which was established to provide evidence-based solutions to urban problems. She has focused on racial, economic, and gender disparities as well as community development throughout her career. She and her husband are parents to three grown sons and six grandchildren.
