Linear algebra and ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are foundational postcalculus mathematics. The goal of this text is to help students master both subject areas in a one-semester course. Over a career of more than 30 years as a mathematics professor, Todd Kapitula has taught at Calvin University, the University of New Mexico, Virginia Tech, and the University of Utah. He is the (co)author of over 50 peer-reviewed research articles, one of which won the SIAM Outstanding Paper Prize., Calvin University has awarded him the Provost’s Award for Enduring Scholarly Contributions for his lifetime of scholarly work. He coauthored with Keith Promislow the seminal graduate level text, Spectral and Dynamical Stability of Nonlinear Waves (Springer, 2013). He is currently most interested in undergraduate mathematics education and involving undergraduate students in research projects.
