In this updated release, the author-as a theatre artist-suggests that Oral Interpretation is a performance art and therefore requires a creative performance approach. In this context, creativity and discovery are the key factors in the preparation and rehearsal process, unlike other approaches that emphasize literary analysis. This book is a comprehensive guide for teachers, youth leaders, geriatric activity providers, and community theater groups interested in the art and science of Oral Interpretation.

Richard Young (MFA, Lindenwood University) discovered theater in high school when he followed a cute girl into a drama club meeting (he fell in love, and not just with her). Professor Young taught theater at Greenville University, Blackburn College, and Bethel University in Indiana. He was a member of and director for Lamb's Players Theater in California. He was co-founder and artistic director of the Summer Repertory Theater at Blackburn College. His play Bread for Their Mouths, Fire for Their Souls won the 2017 Searchlight Theater playwriting competition.
