One True Logic is a major contribution to the philosophy of logic. It is the first monograph explicitly to articulate a version of logical monism, the view that there is a single correct foundational logic. Logical monism is opposed to logical pluralism, according to which there are many correct logics. One True Logic provides a critical overview of the monism vs pluralism debate and argues for the former. It defends a particular monism, based on a highly infinitary logic. Breaking new ground on a number of fronts, it offers novel arguments for the genuine logicality of infinitary logic and unifies disparate discussions in the philosophical and logical literature.

Reviews for One True Logic: A Monist Manifesto

One True Logic is a towering achievement. It is a comprehensive, original, and insightful contribution to the philosophy of logic. It is a pleasure reading a take on the pluralism debate that builds on careful considerations about methodology, language, and recent technical developments. The debate between monists and pluralists about logic deserves a book length treatment, and this might stand as a definitive defence of monism for some time."" * Ole Hjortland * One True Logic is a brilliant work on the nature of logic. Defending monism, Griffiths and Paseau develop an infinitary conception of logic based on the isomorphism-invariance criterion of logicality, and respond to objections. The book is clear and well argued, and will be of much interest to philosophers, logicians, linguists, and mathematicians. It deserves the most serious consideration. * Gila Sher * This bold, rigorous, historically informed, and up-to-date work is the best-developed critique of pluralism about logic available, and it gives an attractive, informative, and original account of what the One True Logic must be like. The book will be an important focus of debate amongst philosophers and logicians for many years to come. * Timothy Williamson * One True Logic is a bold and original book. Its discussion of foundational questions about logic is detailed and mathematically rigorous. At the same time, it is admirably clear and approachable. It is also fun to read. Its uncompromising style ...its precise argumentation, and its dialectical clarity make it an engaging and thought-provoking investigation into the nature of logical consequence... full of original arguments worthy of discussion... a fascinating and rich book. * Erik Stei, Notre Dame Philosophical Reviews * One True Logic is a rare contribution to the most fundamental issues in the philosophy of logic. The book pushes a remarkably clear and uncompromising monistic stance, in a presentation that is historically informed and mathematically intricate, all the while being engaging and instructive. This makes the book a pleasure to read for anyone who is intrigued by foundational questions about logic. Due to its exceptional readability, I expect that readers of all levels will benefit from this book. * Mind *
