ABBEY'S BOOKSELLER PICK ----- In a neighbourhood where people rush around with no time to make friends, Norton is rather pleased when Bear moves into the terrace next door. He invites Bear to dinner, and they have a lovely time discovering the things they have in common, but when the bear leaves, he askes to borrow Norton's slippers. And the next day, asks to borrow Norton's teapot - and teacup - and then increasingly, more and more of Norton's thing without returning any of the previous items, until poor Norton uncharacteristically snaps. Exuberant pencil and watercolour illustrations capture the characters' expressions and surroundings, and the subtle message about boundaries and friendship is beautifully done. Evans' previous book Norton and the Bear was shortlisted for the CBCA awards, and I can see this one following. Ages 4-6. Lindy
Wouldn't it be fun to have a friend living right next door to you? Well, as Norton discovers, it can certainly pose some challenges when that friend wants to borrow all of your favourite things. This is a story about setting limits and learning to accept your friends, flaws and all.
