New Visions in Performance features the work of twelve performers and academics who are concerned with the integration of digital technologies into theatrical performance. The chapters are each analytical case studies (some written by the artists themselves) of creative practices which include insights into the very latest developments in the confluence of performance and technology. A central concern of all the authors is the manner in which these technologies provide new opportunities for the creation and formulation of performance, and new contributions to the discourse surrounding performance in a digital and mediated culture. Core themes emerging through the chapters include issues such as virtuality, the body, liveness, time and space, interactivity and magic. The book contains descriptions and analyses of work that spans traditional theatre, dance, film and computer games, frequently at the intersection of these forms. A variety of methodological approaches are taken but all writers both describe the work they are involved in and reflect upon it from their theoretical standpoint. The concluding chapter brings the work together, identifying and discussing the major themes.
