Navigating Special Education: A Parent's Guide to Rights and Advocacy is the definitive roadmap for parents determined to secure the education their child deserves. Written in plain English by Dana Jonson-special education attorney, former teacher and administrator, and mother of five children with disabilities-this book bridges the gap between confusing legal language and real-life advocacy.

Whether you are brand new to IEPs or already facing school resistance, this book delivers actionable guidance with empathy, urgency, and clarity. Jonson demystifies critical processes-from early intervention and eligibility to behavior plans, dispute resolution, and transition services-so parents can confidently advocate at every stage.

Inside, you will learn how to:

Understand your child's rights under IDEA Request evaluations and navigate the IEP process Respond to discipline, bullying, and school refusal Collaborate with teachers-or push back when necessary Build a support team and protect your own well-being

Packed with checklists, scripts, and practical tools, Navigating Special Education turns complex laws into strategies families can use immediately. It is more than a guidebook-it is a lifeline.

If you are exhausted, overwhelmed, or ready to fight for your child, this book will give you the tools-and the confidence-to take the next step.
