This book offers an overview of the recent studies and advances in environmental catalysis by nanomaterials, considering both the fundamental and the technological aspects. It offers contributions in different areas of environmental catalysis, including the catalytic and photocatalytic abatement of environmentally hazardous effluents from stationary or mobile sources, the valorization of waste and the production of sustainable energy. In other words, this monograph provides an overview of modern environmental and energy related applications with a particular emphasis to nano-sized catalytic materials. Recent concepts, experimental data and advanced theories are reported in this book to give evidence of the environmental and sustainable applications that can be found in the highly interdisciplinary field of catalysis.

Marco Piumetti received his European PhD in Materials Science and Technology from the Politecnico di Torino in 2010. He has trained at several academic institutions, including the Laboratoire de réactivité de surface-Sorbonne Université and the Fritz-Haber Institute. He joined in the Prof. Saracco’s group at the Politecnico di Torino in 2013. He is now appointed professor of the courses Industrial Biochemistry and Introduction to Sustainable Engineering offered at the Politecnico di Torino. His research activity concerns topics of environmental catalysis, surface science, nanomaterials and biochemistry. Samir Bensaid got his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 2010 at Politecnico di Torino and was Visiting Researcher at University of Houston (USA) in 2015. He is now Full Professor of Industrial Chemistry at Politecnico di Torino, and Coordinator of the PhD Programme in Chemical Engineering. His research activity concerns the field of catalysis and reaction engineering applied to heterogeneous systems, focusing on the design of catalysts and structured reactors for the automotive field, the energy sector and biorefinery processes.
