Eleonora Rocconi is Associate Professor of Classics at the University of Pavia, Italy. Her publications include several articles on aspects of music in classical antiquity, a monograph on the origin of its technical terminology (Le parole delle Muse (2003)), and several edited volumes, including the forthcoming Blackwell Companion to Ancient Greek and Roman Music (co-edited with Tosca Lynch). She is also editor-in-chief of the journal Greek and Roman Musical Studies.
Throughout the book, an insightful discussion of Greek aesthetic, ethical, and political ideas about music is intertwined with analyses of how these ideas resonate with key issues in modern musical discourse. * Bryn Mawr Classical Review *
