Miffy x Vermeer is a delightful book introducing young children to the world of art. The second in a series that began with the award-winning Miffy x Rembrandt (2019).

The artists Vermeer and Dick Bruna are both world famous and born in the Netherlands. Although their work may seem quite different, there are many similarities. Both were fascinated by small, intimate stories, focusing on a single activity, often taking place in and around the house. Did you know that Dick Bruna and Johannes Vermeer shared a fondness for the colour blue? Join Miffy in discovering the similarities and differences in their art.

Dick Bruna (1927-2017) was an award-winning graphic designer, author and illustrator. He not only wrote and illustrated no fewer than 124 picture books, but also designed many posters and more than 2,000 book covers for the Black Bear pocket editions. During a career spanning 60 years, Dick Bruna gained international acclaim. He is best known for the lovable character Miffy. Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest Dutch painters of the 17th century. He is especially celebrated for the exquisite rendition of light in his work. Only 34 paintings are universally attributed to Vermeer. Among his most famous works are The Milkmaid and Girl with a Pearl Earring. The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam is home to many Dutch masters, including Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt, Jan Steen and Frans Hals.
