Addressing pollution issues with MOFsMetal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have emerged as highly customizable catalysts based on their unique features. Recent studies have developed specific MOFs for many applications. As part of a three-volume set (1393-1395), this volume provides an overview on MOFs used in environmental remediation, including synthesis, characterization, and examples of applications. Materials scientists and chemical engineers will find this work useful, as will students learning about this active area of research.

"Dr. Pooja Ghosh is an assistant professor in the Centre for Rural Development and Technology at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD), India. She obtained her Ph.D. in environmental sciences from Jawaharlal Nehru University, India in 2015. Prior to joining IIT Delhi as an assistant professor in September 2020, she was the recipient of the prestigious DST-Inspire Faculty Award and conducted her post-doctoral research in IIT Delhi between 2016 to 2020. Her area of domain is environmental risk assessment and management with a keen interest on waste management, bioenergy, and remediation of persistent and emerging contaminants. She has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles in high impact international journals and has more than 1,000 citations with an h-index of 18 and i10-index of 22 (per Google Scholar). Dr. Smita is an assistant professor in the department of environmental sciences at J.C. Bose University of Science & Technology, YMCA, Faridabad. She is a strong research professional with a doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) in environmental science and engineering focused on ""Bioelectrochemical Stabilization of Landfill Leachate"" via microbial fuel cell Technology (MFC). Prior to her current position, she pursued her postdoctoral research at the Centre for Rural Development and Technology, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. Here, her work was based on the conversion of emerging water pollutants from agrochemical/pesticide industries into green energy by MFC technology. Her major MTech (environmental science and engineering) project work at CFEES, DRDO focussed on the bioremediation of effluent generated from defence manufacturing facilities. Her research interests include environmental pollution assessment and abatement; microbial fuel cells; bioelectrochemical waste and wastewater treatment; microalgae; sustainable bioenergy production; landfill leachate treatment; and bioremediation. She has to her credit more than 60 publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and book chapters (more than 1,600 citations), with an h-index of 21 and i10-index of 40 (per Google Scholar). Dr. Lakhveer Singh is a faculty member in the department of environment science, SRM University Amaravati, AP. Earlier, he worked as an associate professor at the University Malaysia Pahang, Malaysia and as a post-doctoral researcher at Oregon State University, Corvallis, USA. His major areas of research expertise are energy production, bioelectrochemical systems, wastewater treatment, and nanomaterial synthesis for sustainable applications. He has three patents to his credit, has edited 10 books (ACS, Elsevier, CRC, etc.), and published over 80 scientific papers (more than 2,500 citations; h-index 30; i10-index 55) and 15 book chapters. Dr. Singh has supervised five Ph.D. theses and has completed more than 10 R&D projects. He also serves as an editorial board member for the Journal of Biomass Conversion and Biorefinery (Springer I.F 4.987)."
