I was delighted to read Cheery Clairey's Winter Wonderland. The dedication was a nice touch as it gave a great behind-the-scenes look at how this book came to be and the inspiration behind its creation. I love alliteration and find most kids like it too, so a name like Cheery Clairey is great pick. The illustrations are fun and vibrant and are a perfect compliment to the text. The story flows nicely moving from scene to scene and keeping the interest of the reader. I think it's important children learn about places outside of where they grew up. The facts about Trinidad and background about Clairey is interesting and flows with the rest of the story. The fears of starting a new school, or even just a new school year, are familiar to children and help them relate to Clairey. The addition of other characters like Chatty Patty was fun and helped move the story along, again keeping the interest of the reader. This is a great book and series for kids just getting into chapter books. Clairey is relatable and her friends are a fun part of the story as they are not one-dimensional and have their own stories to tell - i.e. Messy Marvyn.
