In a world of theological snap judgments, where doctrines are often wielded as weapons, Measuring Twice, Cutting Once is a profound call to careful, humble, and courageous reflection. Jerome C. Crichton challenges the ""sentries"" of religious tradition, not with rebellion, but with a deeper faithfulness to the God revealed in Jesus Christ. This groundbreaking work dares to re-measure long-held assumptions on some of the most pressing issues in modern faith: the problem of evil, the nature of sin, divorce, the Sabbath, women in ministry, and the church's response to queer identities. Crichton masterfully distinguishes between the organic, Spirit-led ekklesia and the man-made institutional church, arguing that true authority belongs to Christ alone. Measuring Twice, Cutting Once is for anyone who has ever been marginalized for asking hard questions. It is an invitation to move beyond black and white certainty and into the complex, beautiful colors of a God whose thoughts are not our thoughts. This is not a book of easy answers, but a faithful guide for those who believe that good theology--done with prayer, study, and grace--is the path to liberation.

Reviews for Measuring Twice, Cutting Once

""In Measuring Twice, Cutting Once, Jerome Crichton fuses scholarly rigor with pastoral sensitivity, inviting readers to approach theology as both art and science. With humility and courage, he calls us to re-measure inherited certainties, reminding us that revelation is progressive and faith thrives through reflection. This is theology at its most disciplined and humane--anchored in grace, guided by reason, and centered in Christ, the ultimate measure of all truth."" --David E. Fraser, Professor of Public and Healthcare Administration, California State University, East Bay
