With more than a dozen patents and two national land speed records aboard a motorcycle to his credit, this former founder and president of two thriving manufacturing companies lists his most important accomplishments as the raising of three successful, well adjusted, Christian adult kids and the mentoring of undergraduate students while teaching engineering laboratories at Oklahoma State University. Following graduation from Purdue University, Gary traveled the world as an engineer and business owner before retiring from day to day operations and realizing his ""bucket list"" job at Oklahoma State University. During his time teaching, students would regularly seek him out for advice, not just in engineering and business, but also regarding issues of life as they navigated the pathway to adulthood and successful careers. In addition to his writing, business, and teaching careers, Gary also helped found the Christian ministry, Total Health LLC, serving the less fortunate in Central America by building and staffing medical clinics. He served on the board of Total Health for 18 years before retiring in 2022. He has also served on the board of directors of other Christian ministries with emphasis on international missions, as well as playing guitar, mandolin, and singing in his churches' worship bands throughout the years. Now completely retired, he is mentoring his grandchildren from a distance by sending them letters relating stories from his adventurous life to Biblical truths and Christian values. In his spare time, Gary enjoys restoring classic motorcycles, woodworking, playing guitar and singing, hiking, and traveling with his wife of 50 years. Gary and his wife, Robin, now live in Edmond, Oklahoma to be near four of their ten grandchildren. You can learn more about Gary and his life at his website, www.garoldwalexander.com.
""Reading these letters was like sitting on the bank of a pond, listening to a private conversation between a grandchild and his grandfather while fishing together."" Dr. Jay Flinn, PhD, Executive Director of Total Health ""This book is a treasure for grandparents. It is beautifully written, thoughtfully organized, and filled with wisdom our grandchildren need. Whether you live far away and need inspiration for your own letters, or live close by and need a book to read together to open up discussions, I don't know of a better resource."" Dr. Jay Martin, MD, Founder of Total Health ""For about a decade, I had the pleasure of knowing and learning from Gary and his wife Robin. Although I was the pastor of the church they chose to attend and was younger than they were, they still joined in and both served and came with a desire to grow in their faith. Since their children were older than ours, more than once my wife and I would invite them for a meal, put on a movie for our four kids and then ask question after question about what's the wisest thing to do in parenting through a particular situation. They were wise to not get too specific with kids they didn't know well, but they shared principles they had gleaned from the Bible that guided their parenting decisions. What a gift those visits were. And now to read many of those lessons again in ""Love, Papa,"" I find myself smiling, as far more than their grandchildren will be blessed to learn from the wisdom in these letters.""
