Life Aboard a Sinking Ship tells the story of a small-town boy who received a draft notice from the Army at the height of the Korean War, and instead chose to join the United States Navy-hoping to see the world. Thus began 15 years of service in the Navy with more adventure than he imagined possible. This book details the first four years of his Navy career, aboard an ocean-going tugboat, traveling up and down the East Coast of the United States, as far north as Newfoundland, Canada, and south to Cuba and Puerto Rico. From the humorous to the dangerous, he chronicles his experiences through violent storms, hurricanes, and sinking ships, along with adventure, laughter, camaraderie, and falling in love. This memoir will keep everyone, young or old, engaged in the story.

Lee Yates spent over 15 years in the Navy, where he reached the level of Senior Chief Petty Officer (E8). There he taught the Polaris/Poseidon nuclear missile electronics for 8 1/2 years. Because of his extensive military schooling, after he left the Navy IBM hired him as an engineer-despite not having a college degree. At IBM Lee was responsible for some of the logic design for the Navy's SH-60B Seahawk helicopter avionics. He also designed the first automation of the logistics support analysis records (LSAR). Lee has five wonderful children and has been happily married to the love of his life for 52 years. He enjoys traveling and dabbling in learning foreign languages. Blanche Yates is a storyteller and writer. Her stories have been featured in multiple publications. She loves children. When spinning yarns for her grandchildren, she likes to interweave lessons and values that will enrich their lives. When she tells them stories, time seems to be suspended as the children are transported to another place. Blanche's hobbies include gardening, cooking, drawing and painting, and singing. Blanche loves to travel and has always wanted to explore her family's roots in the UK.
